Translation Process

To ensure the quality of its translations, Nitartha Institute follows these procedures:

Step One

A draft translation is prepared in close collaboration with Tibetan scholars

Step Two

This draft is taught and studied at Nitartha Institute. This includes:

  • Transmission of the oral teachings
  • Study, discussion, and debate by the students
  • Analytical meditation on passages from the texts
  • Development of study aids (charts, outlines, and debate materials)
  • Clarification of difficult points and/or errors in the first draft

Step Three

The translation is finalized after:

  • Checking and editing
  • Further consultation with Tibetan scholars
  • Review by other translators
  • Formatting and design completed

Step Four

The translation is published.

Publications are made available to students at sessions of the Institute, and others around the world via post.
